ORGANIZATION: Hospitality House

The mission of Hospitality House is to bring homeless people in Nevada County into a circle of community caring that offers shelter, sustenance, medical care, advocacy, opportunity, dignity, and hope as we assist them in transitioning from homelessness to housing. Volunteering as a Guest Advocate is a wonderful way to help us meet the needs of those transitioning from homelessness to housing. Guest Advocates greet and engage our guests in conversation, building positive relationships that support the work of our shelter staff. While it is important that guests follow the rules of the shelter, the Guest Advocate position is more focused on socializing than regulating. It is important Guest Advocates maintain an upbeat, encouraging, and compassionate attitude. The duties of this opportunity generally include: Sharing a meal with our guests Spending quality time with guests throughout their shift Monitoring living spaces including dormitories, the community room, hallways, the laundry room, and patios Distributing towels/hygiene products Supervising smoke breaks and daily chores Program Orientation and Training: Guest Advocate volunteers receive on-the-job training and a shelter tour on their first day. Location: 1262 Sutton Way, Grass Valley, California 95945 Days/Hours: 7 days a week; varying shifts. 4-8pm Experience: No experience necessary, although this is the perfect opportunity for someone with a social services background or someone who has experience working with vulnerable populations. Special Requirements: Ability to talk to new people in both one-on-one and group settings a comfortable interacting with a diverse population is essential. Guest Advocates must also be able to work cooperatively with other volunteers, members of the homeless community, agency staff, and other community members. EXPRESS INTEREST and we'll get in touch!
