ANIMAL RESCUE KONNECTION INC
Please note that this is a virtual opportunity to assist a MA/NH-based rescue - you would work from home and not a facility. Read on if this interests you!!!!
Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) is looking for a positive "get-it-done" type of person with Public Relations experience. We need someone in the MA or southern NH area who can consistently set aside time in their busy weekly schedule and pound the proverbial pavement to locate media contacts and provide different media angles and ideas. A genuinely committed individual is key to this position.
The scope of this position is fairly narrow. First, you will be helping us make the public aware of 1) current best practices in animal rescue and sheltering, 2) local rescues / shelters doing a great job, and 3) dogs wronged by outdated practices. Second, the audience will consist of local towns/cities connected to the stories and/or towns/cities we commonly support which are within MA and southern NH. (On occasion we help dogs in RI, CT, and ME.)
Though re-homing dogs is our primary focus, we are also passionate about public awareness. It’s 2020, but dogs are still being needlessly euthanized despite proof that other options exist and have proved successful! You will be helping us change hearts and minds and ultimately save good dogs who deserve more from their communities.
We already have some articles and materials ready and others are in the making. We also have established social media outlets and exceptional followers. Though we need someone with strong written and oral communication skills for email correspondence and occasional calls, you will be provided the content and will not need to write articles. It would help if you can revamp articles to fit needs and audience for various media outlets.
You will serve as a liaison between ARK and various media outlets. We need someone who is confident and comfortable contacting publishers and media supervisors so we can get this information to the public via online newsletters, community newspapers, local tv/radio, social media, and printed publications in the areas of our operations. Contacting influencers would be great, too! We desire someone with experience contacting media outlets or who is not timid to pursue various outlets. On average, this position will take about 5 to 10 hours per week, all from home. Some weeks there will be no work, but in the beginning it will take closer to 10 hours to get learn about the rescue, talk with fellow volunteers, read our articles, and establish media contacts.
You will work under the guidance of the rescue’s president and alongside key fellow volunteers; however we are hoping for someone with initiative, a do-er, who requires little oversight once comfortable with the position. We need a dependable person and preferably someone who can commit to one year. We are preparing to launch a new campaign so the new PR volunteer will be joining at a critical point in our 9-year history!
This is a fulfilling position for someone with PR experience and a passion for animal welfare, who truly wants to be an active volunteer. Knowledge of the shelter/rescue world is preferred, but being on the "same page" as us concerning marginalized breeds, second chances, reducing the kill rate in shelters, etc. is more important. Our website will help you decide if this rescue is right for you! www.animalrescuekonnection.org
About ANIMAL RESCUE KONNECTION INC
9 SKIPPER WAY, GLOUCESTER, MA 01930, US
Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) bridges the gap between dogs in need and the organizations that can help them find new homes. We specialize in matching breeds that are hard to place due to discrimination and labeling with progressive shelters and rescues willing to take on the challenge of taking in these 'at risk’ dogs and giving them what they need to succeed. We are not a shelter. Rather, we are a networking organization enabling us to save more dogs’ lives by collaborating with existing rescues and shelters. We focus on at risk dogs that are behaving poorly in the shelter or holding facility and/or do not do well on their behavioral evaluation due to stress. Since our founding in May 2012, we have helped save more than 400 at risk dogs in need of transfer, by finding them a shelter or rescue and giving them a second chance at the life they deserve.
A small organization that achieves a lot because of the commitment, dedication, business, and common sense of a handful of volunteers.
Too many dogs were being euthanized under the guise of labels like 'unadoptable’ and 'not place-able’ without evaluating the dog as an individual, looking at the dog’s stresses, looking at the physical environment or enlisting a training regimen. We decided to do something about it.
We focus on helping dogs that are displaying behavior symptoms during their confinement. Why? Because, in our experience, these dogs manifest entirely differently in new environments, after they can de-stress from the trauma of being misplaced or with proven training regimens.
These dogs can be saved if only other shelters and rescues knew about them. Leveraging our vast connections in the rescue community, we fill a huge void collaborating between progressive shelters and rescues and dogs whose time up or were not doing well in their current environment.
