Costumed Interpreters & Reinactors
A “costumed interpreter” is a volunteer who imparts knowledge about one of the museum’s historic characters and shares that knowledge with visitors. The volunteer acts as the guide for groups &/or guests and moves them through our “living history.” The guide agrees to stay for their entire shift – typically 4 hours long. The unique history of the site gives our guests and understanding and appreciation of the characters and events of the site and its importance as a link in the history of SW Florida. Examples of these historic figures are Frank Guptill, John Webb, Lizzie Webb Guptill and Mrs. Bertha Palmer to name a few. These positions require you present concise, accurate historic information and facts about the characters and the times in which they lived. Costumed interpreters work on site in various locations, provide community service for the museum at special events, participate in speakers bureaus and work museum events. The docent will be prepared to answer questions at each of these venues.
