SCHENECTADY GREENMARKET INC

The Schenectady Greenmarket is looking for volunteers to help us continue providing local food safely to our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can help out one Sunday or several Sundays if you're available! Please see more info below.

Volunteer Assignments (morning and afternoon shifts):

Entrance Management AM 9:30-12, PM 12-2:15

Welcome customers at market entrances, Clinton St - Liberty St entrance; Franklin St - Clinton St or one of the Jay St entrances as assigned.

Count incoming customers using a provided clicker.

Be sure to record customer counts on your clicker at the end of your shift on the customer count sheet at the market table.

Crowd Management AM 9:30-12, PM 12-2:15

Stroll through the market assisting customers and vendors while maintaining a safe environment.

If customers are lining up for a vendor encourage them line up in a way which does not block traffic.

Help to answer customers questions or direct them to the market table for support.

Support vendors with taking breaks by covering their stall if requested. Note: volunteers should not make sales for vendors while the vendor is taking a break.

Assistant Cashier AM 9:45-12, PM 12-2:15

Support cashier with administering tokens and other market incentives.

Set up AM 7:30-9:30

Help to set up the market (i.e. put up tents, barricades, hand sanitizer etc)

Tear down PM 1-3:30

Help to break down the market (i.e. put away tents, barricades etc)

Trolley Volunteer AM 9:15-12, PM 12-2:45

Support customers in locating the trolley, talking to them about the market, and providing them with informational materials on the market and the trolley. Generally, make folks feel welcome at the market.

Since 2008, Schenectady Greenmarket has been a place to buy fresh local produce and artisan goods in a festive community atmosphere. The market includes over 60 diverse vendors and offers our shoppers the best of local produce, prepared foods, and crafts.

  • Orientation or Training
  • Shifts are 2-3 hours on average but you are welcome to help out longer. Volunteer opportunities are on Sunday only when our market is open.
