Home Delivered Meals (HDM) is more than a meal. In addition to receiving a meal the volunteer is an outside contact for the participant receiving the meal.
Meals are delivered Monday - Friday. Exceptions are scheduled holidays and inclement weather. The program follows program standards which ensures meals are delivered in accordance with Environmental Health regulations.
Delivering meals is an excellent opportunity for anyone that has a passion for serving senior citizens or interested in giving back to your community.
· Volunteers must have dependable transportation
· Meals are picked up at designated drop off sites and delivered to home bound seniors enrolled on the Home Delivered Meals Program in Caldwell County, NC.
· Home Delivered meals routes average 1 to 2 hours per route
· Routes average from 10 - 14 persons per route
· HDM route average 10 - 15 miles per day
· Volunteers have the option of being reimbursed 41 cents per mile
· Volunteers do not have to deliver everyday: Flexible schedule is available, however if you agree to volunteer for a route you MUST deliver that route on the designated days
· HDM volunteer training available

Blue Ridge Community Action, Inc. (BRCA) is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1965 to address problems related to poverty in Burke, Caldwell and Rutherford counties. We care about the entire community, and are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other. BRCA strives to obtain and maintain agency self-sufficiency, as well as assist employees and low-income residents to obtain and maintain self-sufficiency. Our mission is realized by providing services, advocacy and support for persons so they can become economically self-sufficient, improve the quality of their lives, and better provide opportunities for their families.
