Prepare and Package Medically-Tailored Meals

Project Open Hand’s mission is to improve health outcomes and quality of life by providing nutritious meals to the sick and vulnerable, caring for and educating our community. As an essential services provider and public health partner, POH will continues to operate during this medical crisis and serve the community.

We are looking for volunteers to help prepare and package meals at our 730 Polk St. location in San Francisco. Tasks include packaging and labeling prepared hot meals in containers and assembling frozen-meal bags.

- Please note that we ask for a 3-month commitment. However, this can be flexible.
- Minimum age: 15
- We are following strict social distancing guidelines, and each shift has limited space.
- We are asking volunteers that are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 or that live/work with people that are at high risk, to stay at home until the shelter-in-space order has been lifted.

3 Shifts

  • morning / 08:00 AM to 11:00 AM
    Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday
  • 11:30 AM to 02:00 PM
    Monday, Wednesday, or Friday
  • 04:30 PM to 06:30 PM
    Tuesdays

Founded in 1985, Project Open Hand is a nonprofit organization that provides meals with love to critically ill neighbors and seniors. Our food is like medicine, helping clients recover from illness, get stronger, and lead healthier lives.

Every day, we prepare 2,500 nutritious meals and provide 200 bags of healthy groceries to help sustain our clients as they battle serious illnesses, isolation, or the health challenges of aging. We serve San Francisco and Alameda Counties, engaging more than 125 volunteers every day to nourish our community.
