About Us
At Limitless Horizons Ixil we envision a new generation of empowered, well-prepared leaders to create a
community with opportunity, dignity and respect for everyone. Our comprehensive approach will
strengthen families, promote a culture of gender equality, and improve educational quality across the
community, creating a positive ripple effect in Chajul for generations to come. We are an international
education organization preparing passionate and innovative young people to contribute to the sustainable
development of their families and community through a high-quality educational experience centered on
academic excellence, critical thinking skills, gender equality, and community leadership.

Our virtual instructional coaching team will play an important role in supporting Colegio Horizontes’s
novice teachers to grow their practice and improve student learning. We’re looking for four volunteer
coaches who are committed to the vision and goals of the colegio, and demonstrate the following
competencies:

The Role
Effective virtual instructional coaching grows teacher practice and improves student learning. Specifically,
effective coaches build trusting, positive, and collaborative relationships across difference; communicate
high expectations for all students; model an equity lens and support teachers in reflecting on issues of
equity in their practice; actively engage teachers in feedback, reflection, and practice grounded in
high-leverage development goals that ultimately, align to school-wide goals; and deeply understand and
can articulate what effective instruction looks like in their content area, and know how to coach teachers
toward that vision.

To achieve our vision, coaches will:
● Prioritize building a trusting, positive, and collaborative relationship across difference and a deep
understanding of Colegio Horizontes’s teachers, their learning needs, and their context.
● Invest teachers in virtual instructional coaching, and positively communicate high expectations for
their growth.
● Communicate high expectations for all students.
● Model an equity lens, and support teachers in identifying and reflecting on issues of equity in their
practice.
● Deeply understand and be able to articulate Colegio Horizontes’s vision for effective instruction and
what effective instruction looks like in their content areas, and select the most effective virtual
coaching strategies (including video observations, modeling, data analysis, student work analysis,
lesson planning, and journaling) to grow teacher practice.
● Maximize coaching time through efficient planning and organizational systems.
● Build teachers’ ability to accurately reflect on their own practice through scaffolded questioning
and the use of evidence.
● Prioritize high-leverage feedback that is grounded in evidence and aligned to high-leverage
development goals that ultimately, align to school-wide goals, and engage teachers in the
practice of key skills needed to successfully implement the feedback.
● Focus feedback on effective classroom management, student engagement, and differentiated
instruction.
● Consistently celebrate successes and communicate teachers’ progress toward the vision for
effective instruction.
● Build relationships, learn from their partner teacher, better reflect on their own practice, grow their
own coaching skills, and experience the joy of growing teacher practice, improving student learning,
and realizing the mission and vision of Colegio Horizontes!

To express interest
The coaching team will be coordinated and led by Limitless Horizons Ixil board member and professional
leadership coach Melissa Granetz (TNTP). If you're interested please contact her at

Mission Statement

At Limitless Horizons Ixil, we believe that education is the cornerstone of creating a brighter future, both for the individual and for the community. In supporting academic and personal development and cultivating literacy skills, we pave the way towards a future of limitless opportunities and broad new horizons for the Ixil community of Chajul.

Description

Limitless Horizons Ixil (LHI) is a non-religious, non-partisan Guatemala-based organization with legal status in Guatemala and 501(c)(3) status in the United States. LHI creates opportunities for the indigenous youth, women, and families of Chajul, Guatemala to develop the academic and professional skills needed to effect change in their lives and community. The heart of LHI consists of two main programs. Our Youth Development Program supports middle and high school education for youth who would not otherwise have the financial means to continue their education past primary school. The program provides youth with monthly scholarship payments and a comprehensive range of support services that foster personal and academic success, including: school supplies, tutoring, computer and Spanish language classes, a work-study program, career counseling, mentorship, and life-skills and leadership development workshops. As its second major program, LHI founded and operates Chajul’s first and only community library. Overall, both programs are designed to support education and literacy in the community by providing children and youth with the resources and support they need to attain academic success and personal development. LHI’s other major initiatives are a women’s artisan program and hosting service-learning trips to Chajul.
