Second Harvest is the grocery store for many of the most vulnerable members of our community. During public health crises like the COVID-19 outbreak, kids and families on the brink of poverty are disproportionately impacted.
When schools are closed and hourly wages are scaled back, the service we provide is even more critical. Yet we’re facing unprecedented challenges ourselves, with mass volunteer cancellations and distribution networks shutting down.
Now more than ever, Second Harvest of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties needs your support to make sure anyone who needs a healthy meal can get one. We’re incredibly grateful for your help. With the onset of COVID-19 and new social distancing guidelines we have had to change the way we handle our Mobile Fresh program to ensure we are following all mandates. Each bag now has to be prepacked the day before the event to make our new drive through model work successfully.
We are limiting the size of our volunteer groups.
Please sign up in advance so we know you are coming and have space reserved.
If you cannot make it please email email@example.com so we can open your slot up again.
Closed toed shoes and comfortable clothing are required for work in the warehouse.
We do not provide face masks, but please feel free to bring your own. All staff members are required to wear face masks as well.
Handwashing is required upon entering our warehouse.
Gloves are required when handling food items. Gloves are provided to all volunteers and should be changed often.
For the health and safety of all our volunteers and staff, maintain the 6-foot social distancing policy.
If you are ill or have been around anyone who is ill, please reschedule for a different day.
If the CDC considers you or someone in your household as high-risk, we do not recommend that you volunteer at this time.

Come as often as your schedule allows – we are very flexible and grateful for the help! During the COVID-19 pandemic we are limiting our daily amount of volunteers, so sign up online or call/email ahead of time to ensure your space is reserved.
During the pandemic, we're also making an exception to our usual age limit of 16+. We are welcoming children ages 11 and up accompanied by their parent(s) or guardian(s). Volunteering with your child is a wonderful way to spend time with them!
