ORGANIZATION: CASA of Passaic and Union Counties

  • 6 people are interested

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, children in the foster care system are now more isolated than ever. They need compassionate, dedicated community members to look out for their best interests and speak up when needed.

Enter CASA volunteer advocates.

CASA volunteers are partnered with a child or group of siblings who are involved in the child welfare system. Volunteers spend time with the child/children, gather information about his or her needs from the family, caretakers, teachers, doctors, and caseworkers, and make informed recommendations to the family court about the child’s future. The role of a CASA volunteer is simple: to advocate for whatever is in the best interest of the child/children.

In only 7 - 12 hours per month, you can make a difference in a child's life. Hurry, because volunteer training begins in July!

About CASA of Passaic and Union Counties

Mission Statement

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Passaic and Union Counties is an independent, non-profit organization that champions the best interests of children involved in the child welfare system. CASA volunteers serve as a child's advocate in court and are committed to ensuring that needed services and assistance are made available to children in need.

Description

Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes.

That's where CASA steps in. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) was created in 1977 to make sure the abuse and neglect these children originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child has an individual advocate to speak for them in court.

It is the CASA vision to provide a volunteer for each and every abused and neglected child who needs one.
