Can You Help Us?
We need adult volunteers for our client roster now more than ever. We welcome volunteers willing to give as little as one shift a month to once a week - about 3.5 hours per shift. The benefits to you are many. The experience is fun, it’s healthy both physically and mentally, it’s social and rewarding. We provide training for Warehouse, Curbside and Client Services volunteers. We are a non-profit organization providing food on demand to people struggling with hunger in Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, Queen Creek, Northwest Pinal County, and East Mesa. We serve qualified families with income less than 185% of the federal poverty level as defined by DES. We have been at our mission of feeding the hungry for nearly 40 years and are constantly working to ensure that individuals, families, seniors, veterans, the disabled and homeless can continue to count on us as their food rescue resource.
Last year we moved over 1.4 million pounds of food through our warehouse to help feed 40,000 people (over 14,000 eligible families). We’re proud to say that we remained fully operational during the pandemic by reinventing our distribution system. With the help of our small staff, many volunteers, local police, and National Guard troops, we devised a contact-free drive-through operation that is safe for both clients and our volunteers. Our clients are the "working poor" who struggle to meet their financial needs, and now include many new clients who have found themselves in the throes of food insecurity due to the financial impact of job losses and school closures.
Morning warehouse crew is from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM Monday through Friday. Client Service and curbside volunteers are Mon., Tues., Thurs. and Fri. from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothes: masks and gloves are provided. Hand-washing a must. Warehouse able to lift up to 20 pounds. Client Services and Curbside need to be heat tolerant.
Warehouse
Working in our warehouse requires the ability to stand for several hours, lift 20 pounds and pay close attention to detail and the desire to be part of a team under the directions of the Team Leader.
Curbside
Working a Curbside shift involves loading the groceries into the client's cars to maintain our no-contact food distribution. A desire to help those in need is key to this role.
Client Services
At Client Services, volunteers greet and meet clients, check required documentation, and perform simple data entry. A kind heart and a desire to help are useful skills for this position.
To learn more about volunteering go to our website at superstitionfoodbank.org and select the volunteer tab. Complete the brief questionnaire and a food bank representative will contact you.
