Farmer Frog

Farmer Frog is providing emergency food assistance through farmer produced and freshly packaged foods transported and distributed to over 170 food banks and meal programs. This is a new program for us since COVID is resulting in a crisis leaving people without money for food. We are now serving over 700,000 people in the Puget Sound area and this requires a lot of activity at our HQ farm location in Woodinville. Food is received, brought in by volunteers and semis, sometimes repackaged, bagged, boxed, and then distributed to organizations who come to pick it up. Volunteers are also working on the farm itself, growing fresh food, tending crops and livestock and adding infrastructure to growing areas.

We are looking for individuals who have background in healthcare either as nursing/medical students or pros or volunteer EMTs, emergency responders or otherwise knowledgeable about overseeing specific health related protocol. The job is a volunteer position, called COVID Monitor.
The role involves following our established COVID protocol as it relates to our daily operation and our ever shifting state and local regulations. We ask that the person helps check folks in at our HQ farm site, makes sure everyone is wearing a mask, gloves any other needed PPE as it is appropriate for COVID.

All of the activities are essentially outdoors, therefore the Monitors have to work in whatever weather we have. There are covered areas, but not enclosed buildings for any of the projects.

The COVID Monitor will oversee volunteers interacting, keeping social distance, safely taking breaks, refilling water bottles, eating any food served by designated personnel to them if such is offered and any needed sanitation of tools and spaces. Each shift is listed below. Volunteers will be able to take shifts as it fits their schedule.

  • The hours for the position are as follows: M - Th from 9:30 to 3:00 (with 2 positions available), Friday and Saturday 9:30 to 4:30 (with 3 positions available). These hours sometimes vary depending on the scheduled events for the week but generally remain fairly consistent.
  • Regarding people on-site; M - Th we anticipate about 20 volunteers and staff on-site, 10 of which would be managed by the COVID Monitor in support with the staff. We also have frequent visitors (drivers to pick-up food for the food banks) that require support in the safety protocols all throughout the day as they temporarily step out of their vehicles during loading and need to be reminded about wearing masks and keeping social distance. Fridays and Saturdays we have seen anywhere between 20 - 60 volunteers on-site with 10 staff. .
  • We do require some equipment and resources from volunteers - a cell phone, work gloves, masks and closed-toed shoes. We also recommend bringing refillable water bottles, snacks, and something to protect them from the sun (like a hat). We provide safety vests for the Monitors. We can also provide non-latex gloves and disposable masks if people do not have these.

This is very important role and we realize how serious the job is, especially in light of the virus spreading intensely again.
