We are looking for a male, Spanish-speaking volunteer to mentor a 12-year-old refugee youth from Honduras. This youth arrived in the United States in January of 2020, where he was first placed in Florida while it was determined if he could be reunited with his 18-year-old brother, who is in Louisiana. That brother is in the care of the Department of Children and Families, so it was determined that he could not be a sponsor for his younger brother.
This youth has been placed in a foster home on the NE side of Grand Rapids since mid-June. He will start as a 7th grader at a local public school in the fall. His case manager shared, "This youth loves art! He loves to draw and paint and color and be creative. He is very talented as an artist. He also likes to play video games and soccer."
This youth has no contact with his father and his mother remains in Honduras and cannot care for him.
