In response to COVID-19 needs, our friends at the American Indian Center are distributing pre-packed boxes of fresh vegetables and fruits to families in Albany Park, a very diverse community of immigrant and refugee families. This is a weekly event taking place every Friday at 11 am. You can just show up, no need to sign up or wait for email response. Volunteers are needed to help move boxes up to 24 pounds to pass out to the community. We will also setup some pop up tents and traffic control signs to make the drive thru distribution line run smooth. We give out 500 to 1000 boxes in a 4 hour period. This is a very well organized and friendly outdoor service event. We emphasize efficiency with smart distribution tactics to minimize our physical labor.

Setup time: Every Friday at 11 am
Distribution time: 12 noon to 3:30 pm
Breakdown and cleanup time: 3:30 pm to 4 pm
Shift time is flexible. So it is OK if you cannot come at the start time or have to leave early. Anytime you give will be much appreciated

Location: 3401 W. Ainslie Street, Chicago IL 60625

About the community you will be serving: (From Wikipedia)
Albany Park is one of 77 well-defined community areas of Chicago. Located on the Northwest Side of the City of Chicago with the North Branch of the Chicago River forming its east and north boundaries, it includes the ethnically diverse Albany Park neighborhood, with one of the highest percentages of foreign-born residents of any Chicago neighborhood.

Although the majority of those foreign-born residents are from Latin America, mostly from Mexico (especially from the state of Michoacán), Guatemala, and Ecuador, substantial numbers are from the Philippines, India, Korea, Cambodia, Somalia, the former Yugoslavia (Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia), Romania, Pakistan and the Middle East (especially Iraq, Iran, and Lebanon). Over 40 different languages are spoken in its public schools.

Due to the diverse population and immigrant population attraction, the population of the neighborhood increased by 16.5% during the 1990s. It is part of the 60625 ZIP code, which is known as one of the most diverse areas in the entire country.
