Summary of Qualifications: Under the supervision of the Uhuru Foods & Pies Manager, the Uhuru Pies Head Baker ensures the highest quality and consistently baked Uhuru Pies. The Head Baker is responsible for preparing pie fillings and toppings, and for filling, baking and boxing Uhuru Pies according to schedule provided by the Uhuru Pies Coordinator. Head Baker will supervise Assistant Baker(s) and will manage production volunteers who are under supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator.

Prepares Uhuru Pies fillings and toppings according to Uhuru Pies recipes provided. Bakes Uhuru Pies according to bake orders provided by Uhuru Pies Coordinator.
Bakes high quality pies consistently to standards of Uhuru Pies. Manages quality control of fillings, toppings and baked pies.
Works with production manager and volunteer coordinator to produce and package pies with quality and on schedule.
Trains, supervises and coordinates the work of Assistant Baker (s) in Assembly/Pie Filling.
Partners with Volunteer Coordinator to manage Uhuru Pies baking volunteers.
Pie Baking tasks:
Coordinates the filling of pies according to recipes and procedures. May assign this responsibility to an assistant baker.
Oversees quality control of the standards for filling the pies to produce the desired end results. Corrects the levels of pie filling as needed to produce uniform pies.
Manages the schedule by which pies are assembled and baked.
Responsible for baking pies at proper baking times, maintaining temperature of ovens, rotation of pies and proper baking time to ensure that pies are properly baked (not over or under baked).
Maintains a clean work space throughout the day and at end of shift.
Maintains health and safety standards in the kitchen according to Uhuru Foods & Pies protocol and those required by health departments and other public agencies.
Participates in Uhuru Pies production trainings and Production Team meetings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:
Passionate about baking or cooking and working in a cooperative kitchen environment
Leads and contributes to positive, safe and effective work environment of all volunteers.
Delegates responsibilities clearly and in an organized manner.
Works collaboratively, team player.
Able to prioritize tasks and manage time well under pressure
Professional baking experience or equivalent.
Knowledge of professional baking and cooking equipment, such as stand mixers and ovens
Possess a current ServSafe health certificate or equivalent.
Physical Requirements: Able to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
