Restore Mass Ave is a volunteer-run nonprofit re-growing the historic tree canopy of Embassy Row on Massachusetts Avenue NW. Our outreach and education projects are building a culture of environmental stewardship shared by embassies and others on the two miles where we work, from Dupont Circle to Wisconsin Avenue. In our first decade, tree canopy in our project area increased by an amazing 13%.

The Digital Media Manager will post news of our projects. S/he will showcase our model for successful local activism, which needs to be better known to help others re-green their streets. Also Mass Ave is an important commuter route. Our work for sustainable infrastructure needs to be publicized for a "greener" DC.

The Digital Media Manager will create updates and set a schedule for posting on our website and social media. As Marketing Manager s/he will work on branding two campaigns we plan for 2020-2021. Our web site and present brand have huge potential to advance our work and help the city.

Tasks include: Finalizing a digital media plan; Creating posts (Twitter, Facebook, Blog); Improve web page layouts with our programmer (WordPress); Web and print-friendly graphics and photos.

Requirements include: Experience in social media and/or web strategy that is relevant to RMA (such as environmental advocacy); Clear, concise writing & good editing; Strong eye for graphic design; being an independent self-starter.

Preferred includes background or strong interest in horticulture and/r trees also being able to visit the route frequently to note tree and landscape issues, take photos and gather content for posts.

Mission Statement

Restore Mass Ave works to re-grow the canopy of major trees that made the part of Massachusetts Avenue, NW, now known as Embassy Row, a world attraction a century ago. We arrange for the planting of new trees, replacement of dying trees, and care for all new and vulnerable trees. We promote the restoration of historic landscape. "Re-greening" one of America's last Grand Avenues, reduces pollution of water and air, and brings energy efficiency to the historic Beaux Arts mansions, which include international missions, on this national landmark. We aspire to be a model community effort for urban forest renewal in historic cultural landscapes.


Community tree planting, tree watering and care, partnering with city forestry, transportation and historic preservation agencies, international outreach to embassies of Africa, Asia and Europe. Promoting energy efficiency by old growth forest preservation. Promoting historic architecture and landscape. E newsletter, events planning, speaking and testimony on urban forest policy. Many fun group activities.

  • 8 hours / week for 2 weeks to get started. 10 hours / month after. Term: July 1, 2020 - January 31, 2021, with possible extension.
  • Prefer background or strong interest in trees, conservation and/or environmental advocacy. Must be able to visit Embassy Row often to view and photograph scenes and projects to be posted.
