Food Delivery Volunteer-Pair Needed

One new Volunteer-Pair is needed to deliver food to San Rafael residents on Tuesdays, starting August 18th or 25th for at least one month. Delivery routes usually last 2-3 hours. This task is best carried out by two people (family members or householders in the same Covid bubble) working together: one driving and the other taking the food bags to the door of residents that may be up a 2 flights of stairs at apartments. The driver volunteer must have their own vehicle with a clean driving record and insurance. The vehicle should have a large hatch back or be a SUV or truck to hold 20 - 36 bags. Volunteers must be able to lift heavy bags of groceries (20- 30 lbs.) and make a commitment to this task for 1 - 3 months.

Volunteer pairs are assigned a time to start between 8:30 to 9:30 am at the Canal Alliance. Where they pick up the 20 - 36 bags of groceries with a list (names and addresses)of the residents (mostly seniors). The volunteer-pair then drives to each resident’s home or apartment complex. Parking is not good so while one volunteer stays with the car, the other volunteer finds the residence, knocks on the door and leaves the food bags at the door. Meeting the resident is not required, as they are on alert to expect the delivery. Please bring your own face covering, water, snacks.  Canal Alliance will provide gloves and hand sanitizer. Interested volunteers will be sworn in as Disaster Service Workers with the City of San Rafael. However, they will work with Canal Alliance staff who provide training and coordination.
