At the Santa Monica Farmers Markets we rely heavily on volunteers for successful market operations. We have many positions available and while each has a defined role, there is room for creativity and flexibility in each position. We currently seek volunteers for our at-market positions of Info Booth Volunteer, Market Entrance Monitor, and Vendor Booth Auditor.
We are currently seeking one Social Media Intern and one Volunteer Coordinator Intern. These are unpaid volunteer internships that require a minimum time commitment of 10 hours per week for a period of 11 weeks or more. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Responsibilities: Information Booth Volunteers (Wednesday or Saturday 7:00 am - 2:00 pm)
Set up the information booth table and signs
Answer customer inquiries and direct customers in search of specific vendors or products
Run the EBT Machine and distribute scrip for food stamps
Collect and organize paperwork at the end of the market
Miscellaneous projects and outreach as needed
Market Exit/Entrance Monitor (Wednesday or Saturday 7:00 am - 2:00 pm)
Maintain communication with Market Manager to allow customers in and out of market in accordance with social distancing protocol
Greet customers entering and exiting Market, sharing market rules to customers (such as distancing, masks and essential visits) Assist in opening, placing and breaking down signs and canopies
Vendor Booth Auditor (Wednesday or Saturday 6:30 am - 8:00 am)
Monitor vendor booths at start of market for required signs; adjust markings at booths to optimize line flow and social distancing. (Mornings only- may combine with Information booth or Entrance/Exit monitor positions)
18 and older

The City of Santa Monica oversees the operation and management of four Certified Farmers’ Markets (CFMs). An estimated 900,000 shoppers visit the markets every year. Collectively, they provide customers year-round with a selection of fresh, seasonal produce that is pre-eminent among farmers' market programs in the state.
