ORGANIZATION: The Trustees of Reservations

Opportunity Overview:

The Trustees is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to remotely translate a variety of Trustees’ communications including signs, trail maps, newsletters, etc. Volunteers who are fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Vietnamese, Chinese (simplified), Arabic and Russian will work remotely, using their own personal computer and internet access. Translation into these various languages will increase our ability to welcome a more diverse population to our properties and strengthen our bond and commitment to our community members.

Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):

  • Access .pdf documents, type a translation of the documents into a Microsoft Word document
  • Proofread translation for spelling and doublecheck for accuracy against the original document
  • Retrieve digital files and share digital files via email
  • Log volunteer hours weekly

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Interest in Massachusetts and American history
  • Interest in translation
  • Excellent typing skills
  • Ability to read English and fluency in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Vietnamese, Chinese (simplified), Arabic, Russian
  • Experience and familiarity with Microsoft Word
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Personal computer, reliable internet access, and e-mail

Training & Support:

This volunteer position reports to a Trustees Staff member who will:

  • Orient you virtually to The Trustees
  • Introduce you to the project and the process for translating the documents
  • Review the project with you and why we are doing it
  • Provide image files, .pdf and translation template
  • Be available remotely to answer your questions

Time Commitment Needed:

Once trained, will coordinate with our staff to create a flexible and reasonable work schedule.
