ORGANIZATION: Finding Independence by CPSH

  • 16 people are interested

There are over 500,000 people with disabilities in Texas. For every person with a disability, there are at least 3 people who have a vital interest in their health and safety. That's 2 million people who could benefit from our services in Texas alone. People with special needs want to live independently and affordably, and we need your help.

COMMUNITY FOR PERMANENT SUPPORTED HOUSING is a 401(c)3, volunteer-led, charity that provides education and resources to people with IDD (intellectual and developmental disabilities) and and their families.

We are seeking an experienced storyteller / copywriter / journalist to better articulate what we do within the Dallas Fort Worth area and beyond. Activities include:

  • Help refine our brand story.
  • Put together case studies on people we have helped.
  • Expertly shorten the case studies to be placed on the website, newsletters, etc.
  • Assist our social media volunteer by providing digestible stories for them to use.
  • Draft press releases to send to the media.
This is a remote volunteer position and we can work around your full-time job and other commitments.

We look forward to working with you!

Mission Statement

The mission of Finding Independence by CPSH is to create long term solutions to the growing lack of affordable, safe, community-based homes for people with disabilities with limited financial resources. Finding Independence by CPSH empowers individuals with disabilities by advocating, educating, and collaborating to transform their lives. We provide workshops, resource connections, affordable housing options, and future planning, giving families hope and peace of mind that their loved ones will have security beyond their ability to provide it.

Description

Community for Permanent Supported Housing (CPSH) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2011. Finding Independence by CPSH is our services division with experts who guide people with disabilities and their families/caregivers on a path towards independence with support services. Focused on serving adults with disabilities who need assistance with affordable housing options, steps to independence training, self-advocacy, resources, safety training, and much more. There are over 250,000 people living with cognitive disabilities that makes living independently a challenge in North Texas. We serve people with disabilities and their caregivers, educators, service providers, and more across Texas.

Today’s housing crisis, made worse by COVID-19, highlights the lack of affordable housing for working class families. People with disabilities are being overlooked. Community resources to help a family prepare their adult child to thrive on their own are difficult to identify. Determining how they can survive on disability income (usually maxed at $914 per month) is challenging.

We provide workshops, trainings, consultations and resources on affordable housing, steps to independence and accessing resources for people with disabilities.

We couldn't do what we do without the amazing talents of volunteers.
