By the end of the year, assess the current capacity and reach of UKanQuit services and determine a sustainable strategy for providing tobacco treatment services to the maximum number of economically vulnerable tobacco users. UKanQuit is a tobacco treatment service funded by the University of Kansas Health System. It treats over 2,000 smokers annually and provides training and consultation to the broader community and the state regarding how to reach all smokers, especially high risk and underserved smokers. UKanQuit would like to increase the reach of its services to inpatients and outpatients and hopes that the Vista will help the service identify and tap into new resources to do so.
Assess current capacity and reach of UKanQuit services and determine a sustainable strategy for providing tobacco treatment services to the maximum number of economically vulnerable tobacco users. -Attend meetings with, shadow patients with, and collaborate with staff to examine the current capacity of treatment provided for tobacco users. -Meet with external organizations and hospital partners (i.e. clinical informatics, pharmacy, social work, providers, financial services, etc.) to learn about resources and services that may be extended to economically vulnerable patients. -Prepare a strategic plan for sustainably providing treatment services to economically vulnerable tobacco users. -In collaboration with program staff, pilot these systems for sustainable treatment and evaluate the new program for quality improvement. -Conduct outreach to inform stakeholders to raise awareness of and engagement in the new program among patients, providers, and community organizations.
