Position Description
- JerseySTEM recruits volunteer college students to coach online or in-person underserved middle school girls in their discovery of STEM activities. The job of the Online Community Manager is to maintain the community of college student who have expressed interest in volunteering bit have not make the the "jump" and convert them into coaches and convince them to file a Coach application and convert these leads into active coaches as students get more interested and opportunities arise.
Open to U.S. based volunteers only.
Essential Functions of the Volunteer Position
- Create and maintain interest in the leads about working with Jersey STEM through timely communication and engagement through social media and other tools.
- Building our nascent online community; embodying enthusiasm for helping middle school girls education, creating and nurturing a fun, collaborative space for our student coaches.
- Use reporting and dashboards to effectively manage individual calls and emails with prospective coaches.
- Build a strategy for event presence. Bring JerseySTEM to students organization online events
- Provide consultation to College engagement recruiters and University relations personnel, Campus Liaisons
- Build a network of college students campus contacts as a pipeline of leadership.
A week in a life of the Online Community Manager :
- Daily 30mn (before work, lunch break, after work)
- Check Message aggregator to see what has been posted in the channels dedicated to the 2,000-3,000 active in that channel (Horizon 2025).
- Check the new additions in the Salesforce New Contacts database and engage with them either individually or ensure an automatic boat is engaged.
- Monitor declining engagement targets - members who stopped posting, liking, reacting, retweeting JerseySTEM content and re-engage with them
- Monday/Wednesday/Friday 15mn
- Attend 6pm:6:15pm Scrum meeting for Coach Management Department,
- Report on engagement numbers, share initiatives, adjustment. correction
- Weekly 30mn: Attend COLE department meeting from 6 pm - 6:30 pm.

JerseySTEM is a grassroots 501(c) nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math ("STEM") education to girls grade 5-8 from underserved communities in New Jersey. We partner with socially responsible companies and their employees, youth organizations in underserved communities, and civic-minded college students and universities. Together we develop and deliver innovative, hands-on, and online afterschool projects and inquiry-based learning opportunities that develop teamwork, 21st-century problem-solving skills, and self-esteem.
Description
Incorporated in 2013, JerseySTEM started bringing afterschool enrichment programs to middle school girls in 2015.
We have since provided 1,000 students with exposure to afterschool enrichment programs delivering more than 20,000 hours of instruction. Students learn to code, build robots, solve problems and through that process gain self-esteem and confidence that they can be the leaders of tomorrow.
