HELP STUDENTS MAKE UP LOST GROUND IN THE FALL!
Nearly 50% of fourth graders in Revere Public Schools cannot read proficiently, rendering them more likely to experience a myriad of other risk factors. Getting involved early can help children increase their reading skills so they can become strong readers before exiting third grade, greatly improving their chances of lifelong success! Be a part of our VIRTUAL volunteer team to combat this literacy crisis!

Tutor students in reading through video conferencing. We provide extensive training to prepare you for success! No previous teaching experience is required. You will use digital books to tutor a student one-on-one (in 1st, 2nd or 3rd grade) following a structured 30 minute tutoring format.

You work with the same students every week to develop a strong relationship with the students, serve as a mentor, and see meaningful improvement in their reading skills. (Once social distancing restrictions are lifted, we would be happy to place you at one of our partner schools or after-school clubs to conduct in person tutoring sessions. You can also continue to tutor virtually.)

About Literations

Mission Statement

Literations drives educational equity through experienced community volunteers empowering young readers for lifelong learning.

Description

Literations is a nonprofit literacy organization dedicated to improving the reading proficiency of young students in 1st through 4th grade in under-resourced communities using a proven literacy model and trained volunteer coaches.

Nearly 70% of students who live in our communities are not reading at grade level when they enter the fourth grade. Literations is squarely positioned to address the urgent need for individualized support given the growing opportunity gaps for young students.

Our Unique Model

  • Our exclusive focus on students in 1st-4th grade results from the growing body of research that indicates this is the juncture that has the most impact on a child’s lifelong success.
  • Providing more time to practice reading skills with trained volunteer coaches using a structured curriculum provides students with the skills and confidence to succeed.
Thanks to our 1:1 coaching model, Literations students end the school year reading 1.5 grade levels higher than they began.
