If you enjoy being creative yourself and you love to share your passion and skills, this role is for you. You’ll need to be patient and non-judgemental; some people will be more able than others, but the key thing is taking part. Some Arts and Crafts Assistants run their own sessions or support people one to one to find their inner artist. They’ll support you if you have an idea but they’re also equally happy for another pair of enthusiastic hands.

What you will be doing

Helping the Activities Co-ordinator to set up for and tidy up after activities
Joining in, encouraging residents to take part and celebrating their achievements
Helping to keep the materials and activities area safe and in order
Talking to residents about the activity to get their views on things they’d like to try
Possibly leading small groups of residents or supporting one to one activities
Helping to get residents to and from their rooms to the activity
Helping the Activities Co-ordinator to record the activities and who has taken part

They also provide day care facilities, intermediate, rehabilitation and respite care. The skills you need

You'll be good at reading people, picking up signs if someone isn’t themselves
You'll be self-motivated and willing to work independently at times
You'll be a people person who enjoys the company of older people
You'll be willing to get stuck in and try a new activity
You'll be creative with the ability to share your creative skills with others

Induction and training will be provided, expenses will be reimbursed. Working hours are flexible depending on your availability.
