Seattle ICO is an all-volunteer organization and we are looking for new volunteers who want to both lead outings AND participate in activities that help sustain the organization. Seattle ICO invites interested individuals to carefully review what Seattle ICO expects and needs from its volunteers before applying to become an ICO leader.

What does a Seattle ICO Leader Do?

- Share your love of outdoors while volunteering and giving back to your community.

- Help organize FREE weekend trips for Seattle's youth to go hiking, camping, canoeing, sledding, snowshoeing, skiing, backpacking, rafting, kayaking, and more.

- Time commitment: Varies, anywhere from a few hours per month to one weekend per month.

Requirements

-participate in the late-summer new leader training weekend of September 12th and 13th ($45 fee)

-maintain current membership in the Sierra Club (membership rates vary-standard rate is $38)

-successfully pass required background checks

-become certified in First Aid and CPR (within three months of completing training)

-participate in four outings per school year

-become an active leader on one of ICO's established school teams

-contribute to ICO's organizational development needs and help Seattle ICO become an even stronger and more active program

-Non-outing activities include event planning, fundraising, public relations, marketing, financial reporting, steering, committee participation and more

Description

Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO) is a community outreach program of the Sierra Club that provides low-income, inner city youth with trips to wilderness. Our dedicated core of volunteer leaders works with Seattle schools and social service agencies to provide wilderness experiences for people who otherwise might not have them.
