Career Support Mentors work one-on-one with adult English learners.

Career Support Mentoring includes:

  • Resume support
  • Job website usage support
  • Mock interview practice
  • ELL appropriate lessons inemployment vocabulary
  • Communicating via e-mail periodically throughout the week
  • Virtual meetings to further facilitate the student’s career support needs

Volunteers can hold sessions once, twice, or several times a week, morning, afternoon & evening.

ALL Career Support Mentoring opportunities will be virtual.

Requirements:

-2 to 3 month minimum commitment
-CORI/SORI
-Use of YMCA e-mail address, Microsoft Bookings, and Microsoft Teams(credentials and training provided by YMCA staff)

Note One-on-One Career Support Mentoring is an unpaid volunteer opportunity, but an invaluable experience working with immigrant and refugee populations of Greater Boston.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to give non-native English speakers an opportunity to meet their personal, education and employment goals by offering a range of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes and services.

Description

We have been providing ESOL services continuously since 1975. We serve between 600 and 700 adults annually. Following ESOL instruction, students obtain employment, enter training programs and are accepted into institutions of higher education. We serve a diverse population of adults from more than 40 countries, with various education and socio-economic experiences. Our program offers a range of English language services including:

-Beginner to Advanced Conversation, Pronunciation, and Grammar

-Transitions to College, University Success Programs

-English for Employment

-Computer Literacy

Class schedule includes morning, afternoon, and evening classes ranging from 6 hrs/wk to 25 hrs/wk.
