Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels provides more than just a meal to our homebound clients. We want to ensure our clients are still receiving one-on-one wellness checks. Our friendly caller program matches a volunteer and a few clients. Volunteers will make calls to all assigned clients once a week. During each call, a survey will be used to track all caller information and data. On average a call is about 15-20 minutes per client.
This is a great volunteer opportunity for volunteers who want to work from home, need to complete hours for a school program, experience working with seniors, and enjoy talking to people.
Volunteer Requirements:
- Be in Michigan!
- have a personal phone they are willing to use to make calls to clients
- have a computer with which to complete the online survey for each client
- have the ability to take notes/fill out the survey while speaking with the client or immediately after
- complete two virtual trainings via video
- read and sign the YMOW friendly caller manual
- read and sign the whistleblower policy
- promise to keep all client information confidential and abide by YMOW's privacy rules
- complete the YMOW volunteer application
- undergo and pass a background check

Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels provides nutritious meals and social contact for the homebound elderly, ill and disabled in eastern Washtenaw County to enable them to live in a healthier, safer, and more independent manner.
Description
Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels has been around for 45 years. We focus on helping the elderly age safely in their home and our amount of clients continue to grow. Monday-Saturday we deliver meals to our clients and provide a safety check with a smile. We are soon beginning a model called CAPABLE which will offer our clients resources to improve mobility. As the need continues to grow so does the need of having volunteers to help with coverage.
Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels has been working with volunteers since the start of the organization. Our volunteers play a vital role in our mission. Our volunteers assist with meal deliveries to our clients, help with office & administrative tasks, help with special events, and other tasks as they come available.
