Volunteers are needed to help us at the East River Park with gardening and at our East River Compost Yard. We have added protocols to ensure safety for everyone. All of our volunteers are required to agree to follow all safety precautions. Please note, we will continue to update our policies as per CDC guidance.

When coming to the site for a volunteer shift please follow these guidelines:
-Bring and wear your own mask, especially when working closely with a staff person
-Bring your own work gloves if you have them. (We have gloves onsite, but we will have limited ability to do laundry in the near future)
-Bring your own water and snacks. We will have a cooler to refill your water bottle.
-Dress appropriately for the weather.
-We'll have hand sanitizer and a handwashing station on site. Please use it regularly.
-Wash down your tools before you leave with a provided cleaning solution.

We greatly appreciate your support!

About Lower East Side Ecology Center

Location:

PO BOX 20488, NEW YORK, NY 10009, US

Mission Statement

The Lower East Side Ecology Center works toward a more sustainable New York City by providing community-based recycling and composting programs, developing local stewardship of green space, and increasing community awareness, involvement and youth development through environmental education programs.

Description

The Lower East Side Ecology Center, also known as Outstanding Renewal Enterprises, Inc., was founded in 1987. It was one of the first organizations to offer community-based recycling and composting programs in New York City, facilitated by providing innovative recycling drop-off centers. Today, the Ecology Center offers services and education for a range of environmental subjects: organics collection/composting, electronic waste recycling, and stewardship of public green spaces.

The organization focuses on providing opportunities for all New Yorkers to learn about the environmental issues that the city faces. Furthermore, it also provides resources and solutions for addressing these issues.
