Pancreatic cancer is currently the third leading cause of all cancer-related death in the United States - and impacts every state across the country. In order to rewrite the future of pancreatic cancer we need communities nationwide to join together and create a movement. This national movement needs your leadership and vision to continue to thrive and grow!

We are looking for a passionate, organized volunteer to lead the planning of our 5K fundraising event, PurpleStride, for our Austin Affiliate in the Spring. This is an incredible opportunity to be the heartbeat of an event that brings hope, funding, and education to the pancreatic cancer community. In this leadership position, you would be supported by a staff member from the organization but empowered to own the event, be creative, and build a strong committee to help you with all of the planning aspects. There is robust training offered and it is a great project to add to any portfolio or resume.

If you are interested in expanding your skills, building meaningful relationships and truly making a difference in this fight, please email: Donavon Roberson at droberson@pancanvolunteer.org for more information!

WHAT: The driving force behind turning the PurpleStride vision into reality. Oversees the
success of the event including revenue and participant targets. Recruits and leads a robust
committee to ensure effective execution.

WHO: Someone who is a connector. Able to recruit volunteers and align them with positions
where they will be successful. A highly organized person is needed to properly delegate tasks
and ensure planning is on target. This person is also ultimately responsible for working to
hit the financial goal for PurpleStride, so someone who is not afraid to get out there and
fundraise is ideal!

TIME: Putting together a successful event requires a year-long commitment whether it
be securing a venue (10-12 months in advance) or recruiting and stewarding volunteers
year-round. Recruiting the planning committee can be time intensive and involves hosting a
Committee Kickoff event (6-8 months prior to PurpleStride). The bulk of energy is expended
in the final few months leading up to the event and can require anywhere from 5-10 hours
per week. It’s pertinent this person is available the days leading up to and on event day.

Mission Statement

Of the major cancers, pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate. In 2010, our organization declared a bold and aggressive vision: After seeing too little progress in pancreatic cancer survival in over half a century, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network put a stake in the ground to double pancreatic cancer survival by 2020. Today we are aiming to raise $200 million by 2020, which will ensure that we continue to accelerate progress.

Description

Founded in 1999, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is the global leader in the fight against pancreatic cancer with a bold and comprehensive approach to Wage Hope through research, patient services, advocacy and community action. Our urgent mission is to improve outcomes for patients battling the disease today and double patient survival by 2020.
