Isolation is a big health-risk factor for seniors. Please help us connect and support the aging community by volunteering! Diablo Valley Foundation for the Aging (DVFA) Friendly Visitor/TelAssure Volunteer Program (FVTA) works to fight isolation for seniors. Isolation can lead to serious health problems for older Americans. 18% of adults age 65 and older in the U.S. live alone, and 43% report feeling lonely on a regular basis. Our programs work directly to counter these dire statistics and help keep seniors healthy and safe.

Volunteers must be 21 years or older, and are screened, background checked, and trained. Once matched with a senior, volunteers will connect on a regular basis as established by the DVFA Volunteer Manager, the Volunteer and the Senior.
-Due to COVID19, the visits for TelAssure will be done via zoom or telephone.
-Friendly Visitors will make home or facility visits and follow the current COVID protocols as directed by Contra Costa County.
-The Office Volunteer supports the staff with office duties such as telephoning, clerical items and special projects. On occasion, an Office Volunteer may provide support at a Special Event.

Seeking volunteers who have a passion for connecting; who are patient, flexible and work well with different personality types. Willingness to undergo background check and participate in an ongoing project as well as travel throughout the Bay Area. Volunteer must live locally in Contra Costa County, California.

Mission Statement

Diablo Valley Foundation for the Aging's mission is to provide compassionate services to help seniors maintain independence, dignity and peace of mind.

Description

Diablo Valley Foundation for the Aging is a not-for-profit corporation providing community service to seniors in Contra Costa County since 1975. Founded by a group of community leaders including Dean S. Lesher, former publisher of the Contra Costa Times, and Katharine M. Grant, a social worker, the Foundation is committed to providing vital services to aging persons who are at risk because they are alone, isolated, pressed by financial problems, or are confused. The focus of our organization is to prevent inappropriate institutionalization of elders by providing the necessary support to maintain them in the community. Comprised of dedicated professionals and volunteers, we enable older adults to live with as much independence and freedom as possible.
