Isolation is literally a health-risk factor for seniors - before COVID. Please help us connect and support the aging community by volunteering - FROM YOUR HOME - to connect and support seniors!
Diablo Valley Foundation for the Aging (DVFA) Friendly Visitor/TelAssure Volunteer Program (FVTA) works to fight isolation for seniors. Senior isolation is poised to become one of the most serious health issues faced by older Americans. Some 18 percent of adults age 65 and older in the U.S. live alone, and 43 percent report feeling lonely on a regular basis. Our programs work directly to counter those realities and help keep seniors healthy and safe.
Volunteers will be screened, background checked, and trained. Once matched with a senior, volunteers will connect on a regular basis as established by DVFA, the Volunteer and the Senior. Clearly, with COVID19 active and rampant, the visits will rely much more via our TelAssure programmatical efforts until such time that in-person visits can be made. If possible, use of digital technologies can be implemented to establish regular, visual connections.
Seeking volunteers who have a passion for connecting; who are patient, flexible and work well with different personality types. Willingness to undergo background check and participate in an ongoing project as well as travel throughout Central Contra Costa County.
Diablo Valley Foundation for the Aging's mission is to provide compassionate services to help seniors maintain independence, dignity and peace of mind.
Diablo Valley Foundation for the Aging is a not-for-profit corporation providing community service to seniors in Contra Costa County since 1975. Founded by a group of community leaders including Dean S. Lesher, former publisher of the Contra Costa Times, and Katharine M. Grant, a social worker, the Foundation is committed to providing vital services to aging persons who are at risk because they are alone, isolated, pressed by financial problems, or are confused. The focus of our organization is to prevent inappropriate institutionalization of elders by providing the necessary support to maintain them in the community. Comprised of dedicated professionals and volunteers, we enable older adults to live with as much independence and freedom as possible.
