Agrivoltaics Project Coordinator
Project Overview
- The purpose of this project is to create an agrivoltaics research program at Maya’s Farm.
- Research has shown that there are multiple benefits to cultivating food underneath solar panels and this project will seek to explore and expand on that research with urban agriculture in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area.
- This project will be developed in collaboration with the Maya’s Farm solar installation and Maya’s Farm documentary (already in progress).
Role Purpose
To design and implement an agrivoltaics research program in coordination with AZSA volunteers and professors and students at Arizona State University (and any other relevant stakeholders).
Responsibilities
- Create an agrivoltaics research program specific to the Maya’s Farm solar installation
- Experiments may include monitoring such things as: plant germination timing, level of carbon sequestration by crops, amount of water released by crops, and total food production throughout the growing season.
- Build upon an existing relationship with ASU professors and students to ensure a sustainable research program
- Communicate with Maya’s Farm program manager and project volunteers to coordinate project
- Be consistently available and responsive to the AZSA team and Program Manager
- Report all progress and information back to AZSA Program Manager
Ideal Skill Set
- Project management experience
- Experience working with agrivoltaics/photovoltaic solar panels
- Experience in food & farmland agricultural land
- Experience in scientific experiments
- Experience working with ASU
Time commitment: Approximately 5-10 Hours Per Week
