We are seeking an organized, self-motivated, self-starting individual who will be committed to bringing continued success to MCL and introducing standardized systems for financial transaction accounting. The Treasurer will deliver organizational financial health reports on a monthly basis utilizing QuickBooks and/or by closely coordinating with MCL’s bookkeepers.
3-year board term to start May 1st, 2021 and end April 30th, 2024.
The Treasurer will:
- Work with President & Executive Director (ED) to improve MCL’s financial outlook
- Work collaboratively with bookkeepers to maintain sound Quickbooks accounting
- Provide regular financial health reports to the Board
- Develop systems (receipt & invoice filing, etc.) to improve financial tracking
- Manage financial documents to support ED’s grant writing and submissions
- Equip ED and Board with financial knowledge to guide fundraising
- Lead and/or support fundraising efforts
- Create annual budget & adjusted budgets (when needed) with President & ED
- Manage QuickBooks reconciliation and/or collaborate with bookkeepers to do so
- Ensure accurate P&Ls, cash flow statements, & balance sheet for grants & taxes
- Support grant writing via procurement of necessary financial documents
- Present monthly report-outs to the Board on the financial health of MCL
- Report-out organization’s financial year in review & forecast at annual meeting
- Develop & implement financial system (tracking receivables & payables)
- Promote adherence to system and offer guidance on financial best practices
- Assemble and lead a finance and fundraising committee
- Lead and/or support at least one individual donor campaign each year
Minimum Requirements:
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Intermediate to Expert user of QuickBooks
- Prior accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably for a non-profit
- Prior financial budgeting experience, preferably for a non-profit
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with people of different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, professions, age ranges
- Project management skills
- An ability to attend regularly scheduled meetings, potentially on a weekly basis
- An eye for detail in process, execution & delivery of financial tracking & reporting
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with others on projects
- Enthusiasm for MCL’s innovative, holistic, and systematic approach to alleviating the challenges faced by the most marginalized within our community
