Overview: At the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences, we take pride in providing an environment that inspires curiosity, self-directed learning and fun for our guests of all ages. Department: Buffalo Museum of Science

Volunteer Job Title: Golden Mummies Docent

Description: To be a friendly and helpful resource to our guests inside of the exhibit. Docents will walk around the exhibit, answer any questions, remind guests to social distance and sanitize.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Smile and greet visitors as you see inside the exhibit.
  • Answer any questions visitors may have while inside of the exhibit
  • Ensure that visitors adhere to exhibit’s rules
    • No flash photography
    • No food or drink
    • No sitting on exhibits or mummies

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Sanitize touch screens as needed while walking around.

Skills/Experience:

  • Public speaking skills
  • Must be able to be on feet for 2-3 hours at a time
  • Some knowledge on Egyptian history is recommended but not necessary
  • Must be able to attend a training session with museum staff

Time commitment: Volunteer commitment minimum 3 months due to training

Founded in 1861, the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences has been collecting, studying and providing learning experiences for the people of the Greater Niagara Region for146 years. The Society carries its work out at several different locations throughout the region, including: The Buffalo Museum of Science, Tifft Nature Preserve, neighborhood-based community centers and other outreach locations.
