We are searching for a Facility Support Volunteer!
The facility support volunteer will provide social and emotional care to terminally ill patients and their families through a variety of activities in individual and group settings. The volunteer will work with people of various religious faiths and cultures. We are looking for a compassionate, outgoing, and dependable volunteer!
Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
* Visits patients in their nursing home, assisted living facility, or personal care home to offer conversation, respite, and assistance.
* Engage in patient interests and hobbies such as games, cards, letter writing, life history reviews, watching movies, listening to music, painting nails, assisting with gardening, listening actively, coloring or drawing, etc.
* Leads group activity appropriate for all residents which may include card games, board games, drawing, painting, or musical instruments. SJH patients should be included in activities.
* Provide emotional/social support in a non-judgmental manner that honors the spiritual needs of the patient/family.
* Has a responsibility to participate in staff training and education programs
* Act as a comforting presence for patients who are unable to respond during visits.
* Prepare documentation for the clinical record per Hospice standards and return to Coordinator within 24 hours.
* Understands and adheres to the Sacred Journey Hospice, Inc. vision and Organizational Philosophy, and advocates its philosophy.

While about half of our patients have some sort of cancer, a large segment of our patients have cardiac and respiratory disease, renal disease, neurological illnesses such as Alzheimer's disease, Lou Gehrig's disease, AIDS, cirrhosis and other terminal diseases.
