Imara Roose Inc. is a 501(c)(3) volunteer-based mentoring program for girls of color, by women of color! We’re inspiring, empowering, and uplifting Black and Brown girls to break through systemic barriers and change their trajectory-personally, academically, and professionally.

We’re always looking for Black and Brown women to share their experiences, insight, and expertise-virtually or in-person.

Mission Statement

Imara Roose Inc. is a holistic, inclusive, and transformative mentoring program at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, MD that assists high school girls with actualizing and maximizing their greatness --personally, academically, and professionally-- by empowering them with the knowledge, skills, and social capital necessary to break through systemic barriers to equitable access and opportunity, ultimately changing their trajectory.

Description

Imara Roose is for girls of color, by women of color. We take a holistic approach -working at the intersection of personal, academic, and professional development-to empower our mentees. We play a distinct role in changing the trajectory of black and brown girls in our community. We're looking for black and brown women to support our efforts by serving in one or more of the following roles: executive board, committees, mentor, guest speaker, and/or as a members of our network.


Some of our programs include:

MENTOR MONDAYS

During our weekly after-school meetings, mentors and mentees engage in candid conversation while participating in dynamic activities and workshops focused on a range of topics-from self-image and self-worth to mental and physical health and wellness.

COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS
Weekly after-school workshops focus on a range of critical topics-from time management, to the college application process, to financial literacy, to resume writing. Our career exploration series exposes mentees to a variety of career paths.

BIGS & LITTLES
Our Bigs & Littles program affords one-on-one support and guidance within the larger group-each mentor ("big sister") is paired with a mentee ("little sister"). Bigs-Littles meet one-one-one or in small groups at least once a month.
