Vecinos Unidos, a 501(c)(3) in Herndon, VA, is seeking a motivated volunteer and leader to serve as executive director of its board of directors and oversee the nonprofit management. The ideal candidate will have experience in organizational management and fundraising and a desire to support the Latino and immigrant community through an established nonprofit.
Vecinos Unidos has been active in the Herndon community for 23 years, helping children in grades 1-6 with their homework, reading, and other academic skills. The program is financially stable and seeks a leader who will focus on the business management side of the nonprofit and oversee those who manage the programmatic elements. The focus will be on fundraising, compliance, networking, and supporting the partnership with Connections for Hope, a Cornerstones entity.
Enrollment is between 20-30 students, most of whom live in families where English is not the first language. Vecinos Unidos is housed in the Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center, where it has an office and access to classrooms. A volunteer board of 8-10 members guides the program and provides onsite support for each session, and a cadre of 30-40 volunteers work with the children. When children do not have homework, which has become increasingly the norm in the lower grades, we want to provide suitable work to enhance their learning.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
