Do you know basic computer and smart phone skills? Are you a patient teacher? If yes, you might be the perfect person to share your knowledge with interested staff, fellow volunteers, and participants at SPIRIT! Navigating the internet is an essential tool for empowerment in the digital age, and is a skill many people who frequent our center need to build. You could be an invaluable support to our community.
You could also contribute your computer skills by helping out with administrative tasks. This might look like creating flyers, adding content to our Facebook page, creating signs to put up at the center, troubleshooting computer or wifi issues when they arise, or simply sending off an email or two.
We look forward to bringing you into our family-like community!

Mission Statement
Vision: SPIRIT envisions a world where all people affected by mental health issues are self-empowered and belong to a community that supports mutual growth. Mission: SPIRIT is a community of Peers sharing and growing from our lived experience of mental health issues. We support one another with compassion and understanding to empower ourselves to recover and break free of stigma.
Description
A non-profit mental health recovery center, SPIRIT is a comfortable, home-like day center on five acres centrally located in Nevada County in Grass Valley, CA.
Entirely peer-run, Peers at SPIRIT offer one-on-one counseling to individuals and host a variety of support groups, including Diagnosis with Dignity, Women’s group, Identity Diversity (LGBTQ+), and more. Many also come to SPIRIT to socialize and have fun. We have a variety of outdoor and board games people can play, puzzles, as well as planned activities throughout the week, including Peer Music, Beading for Wellness, Creative Expressions, and a gentle/restorative yoga class. Participants may also get their hand dirty tending our organic garden.
Periodically throughout the year, we host WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) classes and facilitator trainings, as well as a Peer Support 101 class where community members can learn to become peer supporters themselves. Volunteers are welcome to attend these trainings for free!
