Mission Statement

Talents of Our Generation is a nonprofit organization focusing on at risk and formerly incarcerated youth, by providing an art-based program using the arts as an outlet to express their emotions, while equipping them with life skills, job readiness training, and faith based counseling, in efforts to break behavioral cycles, decrease recidivism, and remain on the path to a brighter future.

Description

Talents of Our Generation, Inc. was founded in 2012 in Brooklyn, NY by Samantha Rao. Samantha founded Talents of Our Generation, Inc., which provided an outlet for inner city youth and young adults to express their talents in the performing arts, giving them a platform to be seen and heard. Throughout the years Talents of Our Generation organized many talent showcases, performed at Metropolitan Hospital for the youth in the psych ward, and went on a mission trip to Haiti to perform for students and raise money for school improvements.

Samantha moved to Atlanta in 2019 where she found an opportunity through her church to volunteer at a Youth Detention Center and as she became more involved, she was able to organize an art program at the facility through Talents of Our Generation, where her and her team currently teach art classes as an outlet for youth to express themselves. Seeing the need for programs for youth after they are released from these detention centers, she felt led to modify the mission of Talents of Our Generation to fit the needs for these youth by providing an art-based program where youth can have access to resources needed to succeed. As of April 2020, Talents of Our Generation’s new mission is focusing on at risk and formerly incarcerated youth, ages 13-18, by providing an art-based program using the arts as an outlet to express their emotions, while equipping them with life skills, job readiness training, and faith based counseling, in efforts to break behavioral cycles, decrease recidivism, and remain on the path to a brighter future.
