About us

Save the Water(tm) (STW(tm)) is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to solving the world water crisis through excellence in water science research and by forming alliances with organizations, scientists, universities, media, businesses, and governments around the world to promote awareness of water contamination issues.

A passion for water. STW(tm) associates must have an understanding of the value and role that water plays in the quality of life of all living things on the planet.

Volunteering with STW(tm) is different from other volunteer experiences as we work in an almost 100% online environment. Save the Water(tm) is run like a business and we rely heavily on frequent email communications, meetings held via google hangouts/Zoom, and collaboration on projects via google drive. Volunteers are held to high standards and deliverable due dates.

We aim to build bridges with local businesses, communities, governments, and schools and have become part of an ever-growing solution in bringing clean water to everybody regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds.

Our educational objectives are to provide students, educators, and communities access to free and extensive resources including water facts, infographics, media, lesson plans, student activities and games, water experiments, curriculum materials for educators and much more! The Role:

Reporting to the Education Content Manager, the Education Associate: Graphic Designer and Illustrator is responsible for creating high-quality graphics and illustrations for our education content projects in increasing public awareness about water issues. As the Graphic Designer and Illustrator of the team, you are required to work closely with the Education Content and Curriculum Development teams to develop inspiring artwork that will attract our target audience. You will be responsible for formulating concepts and rendering draft illustrations from written words, models, sketched ideas and from your imagination.

To be successful, you should be a highly artistic person with a passion for creative technologies. You should be able to draw and work on digital software in a variety of styles and mediums. In essence, you are a creative individual who can turn concepts into artistic, marketable images. You will work closely with the Education Content and Curriculum Development teams, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities, resolve roadblocks/issues and grow STW(tm)’s Water Education Materials (WEM) Education Programs.

What you will be responsible for...

  • Brainstorming with the education team to come up with image ideas and concepts.
  • Preparing and designing rough draft illustrations according to client specifications.
  • Identifying and defining constraints and timelines in relation to your activities.
  • Creating complete illustrations by using digitally created images.
  • Refining image design using illustration software.
  • Enhancing the design concept using a wide range of colors and graphics.
  • Applying complex isometric techniques to add perspective to design shapes.
  • Formatting final illustrations using CAD software.
  • Ensuring that printed illustrations meet specified color and quality standards.
  • Assist the Education Content Manager in brainstorming content ideas and developing strategies to execute.
  • Deliver project updates at Education Group meetings.
  • Support the program development progress that aligns to Save the Water’s mission in educating the public about world water issues.
  • Work collaboratively with the team members in the Water Education Materials (WEM) team.
  • Increasing SEO of our website using keywords as developed by our Web Analysts.
  • Be willing to attend virtual meetings in EST timezone (GMT -4:00) and respond to emails within 24 hour

  • Minimum requirement of a diploma in graphic design, illustration, or fine arts. Equivalencies of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Portfolio of completed illustrations, graphic design projects, and other multimedia-related works of art.
  • Prior work experience as an Illustrator, graphic designer, or similar.
  • Work experience using computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.
  • Drawing, painting and digital drawing skills.
  • Proficiency with required desktop publishing tools, including Photoshop, InDesign, Quark, and Illustrator.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Able to give and receive constructive criticism.
  • Strong conceptual and artistic skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously.
  • Effective oral communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with staff.
  • Understanding of marketing, production, website design, corporate identity, product packaging, advertisements, and multimedia design.
  • Innovative thinker who is passionate about our cause.
  • Familiar with current graphic design trends and best practices.
  • Experience using Google product applications or GSuite.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience planning and designing storyboards, and developing animations.
