Activity Summary:

Be a part of serving the community in our food pantry. Volunteers will help pack roughly 200 boxes, which will be available for Elgin residents to pick up the next day at our drive-up Home Goods food pantry held on Saturdays from 9:30am - 11:30am.

Job Description:

The food pantry assistant will help pack boxes for food distribution, or help distribute during the pantry hours. On Friday, volunteers will help pack 200 boxes from 9am - 12pm in preparation for the next morning's drive-up food pantry. On Saturday, volunteers will help carry food boxes outside and deliver to clients from 9am - 12pm.


  • 18-59 years old
  • Must enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Possess effective communication abilities
  • Friendly personality and smile
  • Must be able to comfortably lift cases of food (30+lbs)
  • Reliable, professional and friendly
  • Pass initial screening process
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus
  • Bring and wear personal face mask
  • Clear brief health questionnaire at start of shift


Alcohol, drugs and smoking are not permitted at any Salvation Army Facilities or volunteer sites

Pants and shirts must cover the waistband. Shirts with print are not to be offensive. Shoes are to be closed toe. We don’t want any injuries done to the toes. Flip flops, shorts, tank tops, undershirts, or halter tops, sleeveless shirts, crop tops, spaghetti straps and strapless tops are not permitted. Transparent, tight or form fitting clothes are not permitted. Skirts/dresses must not be worn more than two inches above the knee.
