Recruiting volunteers to help create a Peace Park on the West Side of Chicago. We will be volunteering Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 to 4pm in the creation of this park starting next week. This is a project led by Chicago Urban Art Retreat. We already created one Peace Park out of a vacant lot across the street from Urban Art Retreat. The new park will be created out of a vacant lot a few blocks from Chicago Urban Art Retreat on Trumbull.
We can wear masks and keep at least 6 feet apart. There is lots of room to keep our distance.
The Peace Park is completed from a series of single art projects put together. It honors African American heroes- people that have made important contributions. It could be someone you have heard of or someone you didn't know. We are going to be lawn mowing the lot, building six sculptures using recycled materials and cement, and creating six veggie gardens for families in the neighborhood. Each family will be able to keep up their garden, planting veggies for themselves, and thus live in a sustainable way.
This lot is bigger than the first lot and it already has trees. We are going to keep these trees and create a landscape around them. We are going to be meeting at Urban Art Retreat at 2pm and will wrap up by 4pm. Urban Art Retreat is located at 1957 S Spaulding Avenue; Chicago. corner of 21st and Spaulding, west of the Kedzie Pink Line stop. Feel free to invite others. Thank you.
