ORGANIZATION: Episcopal Community Services of San Francisco

Importance: Adult students come to the Adult Education Center (AEC) because they want to further their education and/or receive job-readiness training and employment counseling; attaining these goals is often life-changing for participants. With the increased need to serve a broader spectrum of clients, document translation is an important service that makes our outreach, intake and educational materials accessible to a linguistically diverse participant population.

Description: The document translator will translate registration forms from English into Spanish.

Needed skills:

  • Ability to uphold commitment
  • Fluency in written English and Spanish

Population Served by the AEC: AEC students are a diverse group; some have been chronically homeless, while others are experiencing recent struggles with employment and housing, and still others are re-entering society from being incarcerated. Their ages range from 18 to seniors. Our clients experience barriers to their education and advancement that include unaddressed learning differences, some developmental and physical challenges, cyclical poverty, discrimination, lack of access to education and employment opportunities, and some mental health issues. We meet clients where they are, providing individualized educational services, and work with them to formulate a goal-oriented plan that contains realistic steps to help them reach their potential.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to help homeless and very low-income people every day and night obtain the housing, jobs, shelter and essential services each person needs to prevent and end homelessness.

Description

Episcopal Community Services (ECS) has provided essential services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in San Francisco since 1983, utilizing a holistic approach that addresses the multiple causes leading to homelessness. This past year, we served more than 13,000 people, guided by our mission to help homeless and very low-income people every day and every night obtain the housing, jobs, shelter, and essential services each person needs to prevent and end homelessness.
The complex nature of homelessness calls for a multi-faceted solution. ECS serves adults and children through a range of services, including the City’s Adult Coordinated Entry (ACE), supportive housing, employment and education programs, healthy aging, information and referral resources, reentry housing and support services, interim housing, and behavioral health services.
