Altrusa is a service organization. From October to May, we read to kindergarten classes and give away brand new FOREVER books to Greater Portland Kindergarten Students. They get to take these books home. Monthly dinners donated and prepared for the Ronald MacDonald House families. Spring and Fall we help out with gardening at the Barron Center. Join us at one of our monthly dinners to learn more about us and our service projects!

Altrusa is an international non-profit organization that strives to make our local communities better through leadership, partnership and service. Altrusa historically has been, and still is, a community service organization with a focus on literacy and other local needs.

Altrusa is a service organization. From October to May, we read to kindergarten classes and give away brand new FOREVER books to Greater Portland Kindergarten Students. They get to take these books home. Monthly dinners donated and prepared for the Ronald MacDonald House families. Spring and Fall we help out with gardening at the Barron Center.

Come to one of our meetings to find out about more of the service projects that we are involved with. Everyone is welcome to volunteer with us. Altrusa membership is not required.

ABC Literacy-Reading to kindergartners in Portland, S. Portland, Westbrook and Windham Schools
Bags of Hope serving Milestone foundation
Barron Center Gardens
Books Behind Bars serving Longcreek, Cumberland County and Windham Correctional
BooksGiving which is Christmas book distribution to Wayside Community Center
Empty Bowl-Project FEED- Serving soup to feed the hungry
Portland Public Schools Food Service Dinner at Lincoln Program
​Milestone Foundation supporting recovering addicts
Ronald MacDonald House Suppers
Wayside Community Suppers served at St. Peter's Episcopal Church
PROP’s Summer Lunch Program- Book distribution in 18 locations
Books to the Sudan- Packaging and mailing boxes containing 728 books to Juba, South Sudan Library
​Scholarships - $$$ - Providing college and back-to-work grants
