ORGANIZATION: Solomon Community Temple United Methodist Church

Our congregation is small but our hearts and spirits recognize the impact that we can make on a community that need people who care enough to act. The need in our 53212 community is great! We are aware that there are grants available for our community that will enable us to strengthen our ministry. We know that we can be an instrument in the improvement of our surroundings if we are able to tap into funding that will provide financial support for: improvement of the worship experience we offer to our community, creation and maintenance of an outreach program for the elderly and youth, enhancements to our existing food pantry and improvements to our physical church building.
Please respond so that our board can meet with you. We need a person with the correct skill sets to help us in this effort and have a mind that is set on helping a community in need.

Thank you.

Mission Statement

Solomon Community UMC is a group of believers who strive to identify and meet the spiritual and basic needs of all people. We love God, follow Jesus, and serve people. Solomon Community Temple United Methodist Church is a long standing church in the Harambee neighborhood located in Milwaukee WI for 49 years.

Description

In addition to offering services on Sundays, we are proud of our community’s outreach programs: Rising Sun Community- a program for disadvantaged youth, and "The Helping Community" food pantry. Together these ministries serve over 120 families (over 1000 individuals) each month. Our building is available to local community groups and organizations such as Tikkun Ha-Ir and their food justice program, Neighborhood Improvement District, and the WI Council of Churches. Activities such as free community dinners, youth led events, hospitality for food pantry clients and women’s support groups, are some of the ways we build the community. Over the years, we’ve gained a reputation for being a loving, and open place where ALL are welcomed.

We're a very small congregation with very limited means, but still we STAND to meet the needs of this community. It seems that we are constantly in a fundraising mode to support the continuance of the ministry of our church and its programs. We are in need of, some building repairs and upgrades and a new van which is essential to the running of the food pantry and our children's program.
