Making Strides

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events celebrate and honor breast cancer survivors and caregivers, educate the public about prevention and detection to reduce risk of the disease, and raise funds to help end breast cancer.

Role Description:

The Publicity and Social Media Lead works with the Making Strides staff partner to promote Making Strides through social media and through agreed upon media resources. The Publicity and Social Media Lead is responsible for increasing the public’s perception, awareness, and understanding of the Making Strides movement and how money raised through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer supports the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving programs, services, and initiatives.

Committee Member Expectations:

  • Meet monthly with your Committee or Sub-Committee (more often when necessary)
  • Attend monthly Leadership Meetings (or submit report in advance if unavailable)
  • Complete volunteer online orientation, necessary online trainings on the Volunteer Learning Center and a training/refresh with staff partner and Committee Chair/Lead
  • Attend and be available to help at the kickoff, setup day and the walk day
  • Support the event by recruiting 3 or more Making Strides teams
  • LIKE our Facebook page!
  • Sign up as an individual or team on the event website
  • Be enthusiastic!

Core Responsibilities:

  • Engage participants and teams through the Making Strides event Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
  • Share approved mission and fundraising messaging through social media.
  • Promote team and event fundraisers on social media.
  • Utilize the Brand Toolkit to ensure that all content adheres to the American Cancer Society’s branding standards
  • Work in partnership with the event staff partner and other appropriate Society staff to promote MSABC through media relations efforts including but not limited to press releases, articles, calendar announcements, letters to the editor and print coverage.
