Position: Remote English Volunteer Teacher


Reports to:
I AM YOU Non-Formal Education Coordinator

Works with: Volunteer Coordinator and Non-Formal Education Coordinator

Location: REMOTE

JOB PURPOSE

A volunteer teacher is responsible, individually and with other members of the staff, for providing residents with a variety of services that will enable them to reach their personal objectives in an educational framework, as well as provide a welcoming atmosphere during all encounters with the residents.

During a student’s educational week, a remote volunteer teacher will engage with students on three different occasions:

  • Assigning tasks through video/group of videos and/or homework/activities sheet as provided for by the Syllabus
  • Inviting students to online group classes to bridge eventual gaps in students understanding and ensure receptive skills
  • Inviting students to smaller, conversation-based classes focused on production skills, pronunciation practice and correction, utilize skills in conversational context

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effective delivery of online an in person classes based on I AM YOU’s syllabus and methodology
  • Development of supplementary material in the from of an online video for the continued future use of I AM YOU
  • Actively participate in required observation and feedback sessions, training, as well as development and informational meetings
  • Complete all required tasks to a high standard and in a timely manner
  • Liaise, support and collaborate with all staff to provide support for non-educational services
  • Attending bi weekly remote volunteer teacher meetings

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Good written and communication skills
  • Team player mentality and creative problem-solver
  • Basic IT knowledge
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic about the work required

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to write and speak English as a native language
  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Either a TEFL Certification or at least two years experience in teaching ESLA
  • commitment to teaching a minimum of 3-15 student contact hours per week
  • A commitment to produce at least one video per week
  • Interest in working with migrant and refugee populations
