The Marquette Prairie is a small remnant prairie and is one of the last remaining prairie habitats in developed Wayne County. It is located at the southwest corner of Wayne Road and Marquette, and runs from Wayne Road back to John Glenn High School. Over the years, it has become overgrown with bushes and small trees which need to be cleared in order to maintain the prairie habitat.

The Michigan Land Conservancy purchased this property to restore its habitat and protect the property as a public nature preserve. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are not able to gather large groups of volunteers, but we are looking for individuals or people from households who may be interested in helping out. If enough individuals are interested, we may schedule particular work days, but participants will be required to maintain proper social distancing.

It is preferred that volunteers bring their own tools--small hand saws or loppers.

Let us know if you are interested. You can help out individually--or plan to meet friends at the property, provided that social distancing is adhered to. (Do not drive to the property together unless you are from the same household.)

See our volunteer opportunity for painting the exterior of an historic house at this site as well.
