The San Diego River Park Foundation has partnered with social service agencies to help people experiencing homelessness and living, unsheltered, in the riverbed.
These individuals are extremely vulnerable during the COVID-19 outbreak. We are seeking volunteers who are willing to donate supplies and time to sew masks at their own homes. The masks will be distributed to people experiencing homelessness, helping to keep them protected from the spread of coronavirus.
Our staff can help coordinate contactless pick-up of completed masks within the City of San Diego. (Outside of the City, we request that masks be mailed to us).
Adult masks with elastic or adjustable sizing are needed. You can follow one of the available online tutorials, or we can point you towards one.
The San Diego River Park Foundation's River Assessment Field Team collects geodata about trash, invasive plants, and other habitat threats along the San Diego River. During the COVID-19 outbreak, this program has changed it's focus to mapping the locations of encampments. We share this information with public agencies and social service organizations in order to help reach people experiencing homelessness and connect them with services during this public health crisis.
