Healing Care Hospice is looking for a volunteer that has an interest in learning or some experience in sewing to help make memory bears or pillows made from the patient's clothing.

Healing Care Hospice would love to give our family members/caregivers a memory bears that they can keep and cherish as they remember their loved ones. The death of a loved one can be devastating. Often, clothes carry special memories and sentimental feelings; having a Memory bear is a great way to repurpose them while also providing emotional support.

This volunteer position is based at our Downey office, we have a sewing machine here that is available to use. We will provide volunteers with all the training and material needed.

About Healing Care Hospice

Mission Statement

At Healing Care Hospice, our mission is to provide compassionate and skilled hospice care so that our patients and their families can live in comfort, have peace of mind, and experience healing when cure is not possible. We aim to enhance quality of life and preserve dignity throughout the progression of a life-limiting illness by focusing intently on the individual needs of each patient and family. We look at the patient and the family as a single unit and recognize that family support is essential to quality hospice care.

Description

Hospice Care

Hospice is a philosophy of care that focuses on enhancing quality of life and preserving dignity for a person with a life-limiting disease. The focus of hospice is on comfort and support rather than curative treatment. Hospice care relies on the combined knowledge and skills of a team of professionals to coordinate care tailored to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of each patient and family. Hospice care is typically provided in the patient’s home, but it may also be provided in assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities, and freestanding hospice centers.

Hospice Means Healing

Our approach to care is based on our belief that we can make a positive impact on the lives of our patients and their families. Our name begins with healing because we understand that while cure is not always possible, healing is. We strongly believe that quality hospice care promotes not only physical comfort, but also emotional and spiritual healing for the patient and family. We provide ongoing grief and bereavement support to help the patient and family cope with the many losses that occur during the course of a terminal illness, and we encourage and support the patient and family to seek out opportunities for personal growth, reconnection, and reconciliation.
