Though many of us are home, practicing social distancing as we work to flatten the curve for the COVID-19 virus, our volunteer program still continues. Now is a great time to get involved in your local community! Volunteer Services wants you to consider joining our volunteer team-starting your role virtually, until it is medically safe for us to resume typical daily routines. How can you get involved?
Do you enjoy talking on the phone? This is the role for you! Volunteers serving in the role of a Phone Buddy provide once or twice weekly support over the phone to one or more adults (age 18-59) or older adults (age 60+) clients. Volunteer Services serves low-income adults in Skamania County with tasks to help keep them in their homes. Currently we are only accepting volunteers for the Phone Buddy position and Drivers for home delivery of necessities. We have many other opportunities that we can use your hearts and hands for after the COVID19 crisis is over. We will need: Drivers for medical, grocery shopping, socialization; yard care; light housework, and many more.
As a Phone Buddy, you’ll be connecting with clients to ensure we care about them and asking if they are in need of food or prescription pick-ups, and asking how they are doing during this crisis. Your15-20-minute conversations once or twice a week give clients something positive to look forward to and a consistent, caring adult presence in their life.
After completing the application process, Phone Buddy volunteers are provided an orientation over the phone or online virtual orientation, and then receive instructions how to access our web program to sign up with clients needing calls.
