Prep and Distribute Food to Families

River City Food Bank


Every Friday and Saturday, join River City Food Bank in providing healthy and nutritious food to our neighbors in the Arden Arcade area. Volunteer hours begin at 8:30 AM and end at 2:30 PM.

From 8:30 to 10:30 volunteers help prepare bags/boxes of canned and dry goods, produce, meat and dairy/deli items. Volunteers may also help reapportion bulk produce, open bags, sort, clean and organize. Prep is ongoing throughout the day (until 2:30 pm).

Food distribution is from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. Volunteers may help with distribution to families and individuals, Bags are picked up from bins and placed on the tables for our guests to pick up.

Clean up, disassembly, and prep for the following day is from 1:30 - 2:30.

As Sacramento’s oldest, continuously-serving food bank, our mission is to alleviate hunger in Sacramento County by providing healthy emergency food and other assistance, offering referrals and promoting self-sufficiency through a variety of programs. From seniors to children, from the homeless to the working poor, we assist all struggling individuals and families in Sacramento County.


River City Food Bank helps people avoid a downward spiral and work toward self-reliance by providing a short-term food supply when they are unable to meet basic living expenses. Clients who meet income guidelines receive a three-day emergency food supply up to once a month.
